2nd Place in the Estonian Museum of Natural History’s Exhibition Design Idea Competition
A new Nature House (Loodusmaja) is being built in Kalamaja, Tallinn, which will become the future home of the Estonian Museum of Natural History. An extensive international competition was launched to find the best concept for the museum’s permanent exhibition.
LUMIA participated in the competition as part of a joint team alongside the Icelandic studio Gagarin, the Estonian studio Heya and the Latvian studio H2E. Each team contributed its unique strengths—exhibition creation, design, content development, and architecture.
Our concept, “Island”, aimed to emphasise that nature is not separate from people but an integral part of everyday life. At the heart of our proposal was a gently winding ramp that ensured accessibility for all and divided the exhibition into thematic islands. The ascending path guided visitors through key themes of Estonian nature, leading them across interconnected islands that revealed the diverse and intricate mosaic of life on our planet.
A huge thank you to all team members and partners:
