A new extension has been completed at Telliskivi Creative City, featuring a façade made of reed—one of Estonia’s oldest building materials, reinterpreted here in a contemporary way. Locally sourced, natural and renewable, reed has been used in Estonian building traditions for centuries. Here, the traditional material takes on a new architectural expression, combining local heritage with a resource conscious approach to contemporary construction. Behind the reed façade, Estonian designers Stella Soomlaisand Reet Aus share a new concept store and studio. Commissioned by Telliskivi Creative City, we designed the 320 m² extension to the existing building specifically for their shared space. After exploring several options for creating a distinctive architectural identity, we chose a reed façade with arched openings, brought to life by RooProffOÜ. A spiral staircase in the new extension provides the previously missing entrance to the Green Hall, while the new rooftop terrace creates additional outdoor space and new possibilities for LIFT99.
